I agree! Something very similar to VIEWPOINTS CD Data set catalog,
only with the ability to add new objects as you recieve them. ViewPoints
CD is very cool!!! It's entire catalog is on CD. You look at the objects
in beautiful hires wireframe. It includes all kinds of statistics( points
Polygons) That type of thing Plus the price. The neatest part about
is that the objects are already on the disk!!!! If you choose to buy
one you call them up and they will give you the encyption key for that
object and zooooooooooooom!!! you have it! They have the CD's in
certin formats only. Seem to be the higher end Software formats. Since
SIGGRAPH has started today they will be giving them out down there. Or
if you can't go call them at(800) DATA-SET and ask them to send you a
copy.
As for bruces dream program, I would be very interested in a
program like that. They have done it for stored images they could
easily do it for objects as well.( well maybe not that easy) The
perfect software candidate for this would be Syndesis. I will have to
ontact John Foust and ask him of the feasability and post it here.
Syndesis has already put out a CD Rom of objects and is about to put
out Volume 2 (2 cd set I believe) in time for SIGGRAPH. I think I have
a couple of objects on there! When you purchase it you get a tiny
Black and White thumbnail in printed form which is damn handy. The only
problem is that the thumbnails were pre-rendered in that format and
submitted with the objects (not rendered by SYNDESIS.
A Program that had a wire fram renderer like Pixel Pro 3D Would be
another great possibility. Sorry for rambling on........
